Fall is here!!
In science we've spent the last few weeks learning about animals and their classification. What makes a reptile a reptile, an amphibian an amphibian and an insect an insect. Next week we will learn about fish and birds. Last, but not least we will learn about mammals.

In math we are working on addition. Some key words to remember are: sum, join, addition, more, less, greatest, least and add. Please log on to Pearson and get some extra practice. We have learned how to put the bigger number in our heads and count on to make adding up the numbers quicker. Student's are also allowed to use touch points on their numbers to help them. Keep up the hard work!
Who was the story about? What was the plot? In first grade we work very hard on comprehension. We always stop and check for understanding when something doesn't make sense we go back and reread. We think to ourselves does it look right, does it sound right and does it make sense? Students have also been working really hard on Daily 5 rotations. I am so proud of their hard work! This is our rotation board that tells us where we are going:) Check out this video!

I have seen tremendous improvement in handwriting! We are still working on complete sentences and proper capitalization and punctuation.
We started working on becoming authors and illustrators. This week we collected information outside for our books. We have been busy writing them and will work on illustrations this next week. We read Library Mouse and learned that everyone can be an author. The kids are having lots of fun with this!
The kids are really loving our unit in health on safety. We started with stranger safety and are working on fire safety currently. Please practice phone numbers and addresses at home as they will need this for Social Studies later this year. Your support is appreciated!!!
