Hooray, Hooray! It's Big Red Day!

What a fun filled day!  We did so many Red Day activities and ate lots of Red Day treats.  YUMMY!  The student's kept saying "This is the best day in first grade". :) I am having a blast and have really enjoyed working with all of the kiddos!  I absolutely love to see their smiles and excitement for learning!  Here are some fun photos of our Red Day activities and students in their red gear!  Have a great long weekend!

Flutter, Flutter!

We have been learning all about insects this week.  We have learned that they have 6 legs, a pair of antenna and 3 body parts.  Today we all became butterflies and got to sip nectar using our proboscis (straw) then we went outside and fluttered around like butterflies.  We had soooooo much fun!

This week we have been working really hard on read to self for Daily 5.  We are up to seven minutes without interruptions.  Students are doing so well.  We learned that when we read with a partner we sit elbow, elbow, knee to knee.  

We've also been working on rules and laws.  Here are a few of our traffic laws and community laws.

We have had an awesome week!  I have enjoyed working with and getting to know all of my new students.  I look forward to a wonderful year in first grade.
