Pumpkin Day

On Friday, we celebrated Pumpkin Day and spent our afternoon having pumpkin fun!  We had some wonderful parent volunteers and donations in order to make this work:)  First, we tested whether or not we thought a pumpkin would sink or float.  14 of us thought it would sink and 3 of us thought it would float.  We learned that it floats:)  Then we weighed our pumpkins, estimated and counted seeds.  Last but not least we voted on how we should carve the pumpkin.  They turned out so cute!!  Here are our recording sheet:

Red Ribbon Week

This week was Red Ribbon Week.  Each day we had different fun activities! 

Monday= Wear Red

Tuesday= Say Peace Out to Drugs

Wednesday= Don't Flip for Drugs (flip flops)

Thursday= Shade Out Drugs (sunglasses)\

Reptiles & Fontenelle Forest Trip

We have been learning about reptiles and how they are similar or different than amphibians.  Reptiles are cold blooded and have dry scaly skin.  When we went to Fontenelle Forest we got to see 2 reptiles and an amphibian.  We saw an American Toad, Corn Snake, and a Box Turtle.

Upcoming Events

First Grade News

Last week, we learned all about reptiles and fish for our science classification unit.  In math, we are working on subtraction facts and finding out the difference to our subtraction sentences.  First graders are busy writing and illustrating I Can See Bugs books.  Several students shared their stories in the Author's Chair on Friday.  They are so excited to write and share their published work.  We have been focusing a lot on the process of writing: 
1. Get an Idea
2. Rough Draft "Sloppy Copy"
3. Edit and Revise
4. Publish
On Friday, we earned a popcorn party for our great behavior in class:)  Several students have started earning their Wildcat Lanyards for good behavior.  Way to go guys!!
